Pressing My Way — 10 Years In
Once upon a time, I came across a bloggers challenge online and decided to start a genealogy blog." I later decided I that wanted to become a "more serious researcher," so I chose to separate my day-to-day online life and create a space where I would only share genealogy. Pressing My Way" was born.

I tuned into Facebook—what felt like the perfect platform—where I could share my genealogy adventures in real time. Pressing My Way (#pressingmyway) By the time I had created my Big Book of Everybody, my genealogy world started to expand beyond my own general research. Research connections became virtual friendships, which turned into in-person meetings—and yes, even front-row heckling at conferences. I never would have imagined that simply being curious about my family history would introduce me to so many incredible people, take me across the country, and allow me to experience genealogy in ways I never expected.
I’ve always been a forever learner, so my love for genealogy education didn’t feel forced—it came naturally. The more I learned through institutes and conferences, the further I was able to go in my research. That journey led me to discovering my connection to the “20 and odd”—those who traveled from Kabasa, Angola, to Point Comfort, Virginia, in 1619.

It set me on a path not just to research, but to tell stories—to preserve history in a way that my children could learn from, connect to, and carry forward. I had plans. BIG ones. I also had many attempts to start…and restart.
But life happened, and deaths happened, and babies happened and everything in between crept in. Because of my circumstances at the time, I wasn’t able to create what I wanted to. So I pivoted...
And so… here I am. Again.
This year marks 10 years since the creation of Pressing My Way. Two years since my last in-person conference. The addition of two more children (Symphony "Phyn" 10/31/2023 & Synclaire "Claire" 12/5/2024) along with a lot more research under my belt. I cannot wait to share!
